Beginning Knitters

Finished size: approx. 7" wide and 36" long

Materials: 2 balls Serano (110yds/50 grams), one in Color A and one in Color B; #10 (6mm) needles

Note: The original yarn is discontinued and no longer available. You can substitute Lang Aiko - 2 balls, each in a different color, or one ball of the same color if you do not want a bi-color scarf. Aiko has more yardage per ball so for the bi-color scarf either knit up all of each ball for a longer scarf, or knit each color half to 18 inches. You may find that you'll use a US 9 (5.5mm) versus US 10 (6mm) needle. And, if you find the width less than 7 inches, increase your cast on stitches making sure you have an even number of stitches.

Gauge: 4.5 sts = 1" over garter stitch on US 10 needle or size to get gauge

Instructions:
Cast on 32 sts with Color A. Work in garter stitch (knit every stitch and every row) for approx. 4.5" from beg edge.
Work Keyhole
Next row: Knit 16 sts and place remaining sts on a stitch holder or spare needle. Working only on these 16 sts knit to a depth of approx. 2".
Next row: Place these 16 sts on a stitch holder or spare needle and rejoin yarn to second group of 16 sts. Working on these 16 sts knit to same depth as you did for the first group of 16 sts.
Next row: Knit across all sts.
Con't in Color A until it runs out. Join in Color B and knit until there is enough yarn to bind off all sts.
