NOTE: Original yarn is discontinued. Use a yarn that knits at 5.5 sts to 1″ on US 4 (3.5mm) to US 6 (4mm) needles.
Finished size: hat circumference approx. 18"
Materials: 1 ball Numero Uno Fancy (137yds/50 grams); US 5 (5.75mm) needle
Gauge: 5.75 sts and 7.75 rows = 1" over stockinette stitch using US 5 needle or size to get gauge
Instructions:
Cast on 96 sts and work for 36 rows or approx. 4.5" ending with a WS row.
Shape Top
Next row (RS)(dec): (K2tog, K10) to end. (88 sts)
Work 3 rows.
Next row (RS)(dec): (K2tog, K9) to end. (80 sts)
Work 3 rows.
Next row (RS)(dec): (K2tog, K8) to end. (72 sts)
Work 3 rows.
Con't to decrease 8 sts in this way, working 1 st less between each decrease, on next row (64 sts), 2 foll 4th rows (48 sts) and two foll alt rows. (32 sts)
Work 9 rows.
Dec 8 sts as before on next row (24 sts), 1 foll 20th row (16 sts), and 1 foll 12th row. (8 sts)
Work 3 rows.
Next row (RS)(dec): (K2tog) 4 times. (4 sts)
Work 1 row.
Next row (RS)(dec): (K2tog) 2 times, then take first st over 2nd. (1 st). Fasten off.
Join back seam reversing seam for .75" at cast on edge for the roll. Tie top 6" into a knot.
